Weekly Book Review No. 15

Forgive and forget, how easy is that for you? Do you still carry around past hurts, comments or experiences and how quickly do you let go? A little help or at least a start...

Ulrich Emil Duprée: "Ho`oponopono. The Hawaiian forgiveness ritual"

Small but nice is this booklet and quite easy to overlook. But it contains a treasure in the form of a ritual that supports you in everyday life, anger, resentment, injury and certainly in the work with your inner child.

We all have experiences that we cannot easily let go of. The last big fight with the parent, partner, best friend, or the colleague in the office, whom we actually appreciate very much. We don't always succeed in having a clarifying conversation right away because we don't have enough space, we are too proud or the other person is not (yet) ready to talk. Perhaps we would like to reflect a little and analyze the roles in the dispute before we embarrassingly get ourselves further into trouble. Please see our article "the drama triangle" for more information.

But what we can do immediately if we want to forgive, or forgive but do not know how, is with this great and simple forgiveness ritual. The presence of the disputant(s) is not necessary and the event may have happened some time ago. You can also use it for yourself to forgive yourself for a past action that you keep holding against yourself.

It is based on an old ritual of the Hawaiian people, which was always used in case of a dispute in the tribe or village. Ulrich Emil Duprée has translated it for us and adapted it to the new, western era.

From my own experience I can heartily recommend it to you. The effect is surprising, you can apply it anywhere and anytime with little effort.

I would love to hear about your experiences.
