Before this column says goodbye to the Christmas vacations, a little support for the days at the family table and in intimate relationship. One or the other insight is guaranteed.

Gary Chapman: "The 5 love languages. The secret to love that lasts"

Hmmm, what could I talk about this week, I thought. Thought, was immediately Gary Chapman's communication classic in my mind. After all, it could be a help guide, gift idea or understanding support for the Christmas holidays.

This read was a total eye-opener for me on a number of levels. (The cover is unfortunately not one of the strengths of this book. But as we all know, it's the content that counts). Well then, why was it an eye opener? After reading it, I finally felt I understood a little better why we all sometimes talk past each other.

I had already read a few other communication classics, but The 5 Languages of Love brought relief to my partnerships and understanding of how those around me communicate.

Do you sometimes feel that you can't understand why your conversation partner reacts this way or that way? Maybe it's because of the language. And what gestures you can use to pick up the person you are talking to.

Gary Chapman explains 5 general types of communication and you will learn a lot about how you can express your responsiveness, your affection, your appreciation and the like to your partner. Depending on the communication partner, the message will be received or you will get an explanation why not.

For example, you are annoyed that your partner so rarely notices that the garbage needs to be taken down, but he fixes your bike without being asked? Well, his language of love is simply different from yours.

The reading is simple and easy to understand. It is wonderfully suitable for someone young who is always faced with big confusions when it comes to relationship issues, or even for someone older who has not yet dealt with communication in any depth.
