The above question has been driving me for 20 years now and has also led to Eckhart Tolle's books. If you sometimes find yourself looking anxiously into the past and future, wondering how you can put all those disturbing thoughts to rest, I recommend this (and all other) books by Eckart Tolle.

The author is a firm believer in the ability of human beings to develop psychically, and with his practical exercises he provides support to lead us from the unconscious to the conscious awareness of our existence. Who am I beyond my thought world and how do I become the observer behind it? This trains your perception and your self-image. It leads you away from being a surrendered being to whom life happens, to being an observing being, which leads to making wiser decisions in everyday life and practicing self-acceptance.

In the mentioned book Eckhart Tolle offers many exercises that can be easily implemented in everyday life and as daily practice. A kind of training in compressed form to bring you closer to the state of being you are striving for. He says that never before have so many people been willing to break out of the collective thought patterns that keep humanity chained to suffering. This is what I like about Eckhart Tolle's books. I have found with it a tool, a possibility to free myself more and more from the victim attitude, I don't have to bring suffering over me and my environment and I can form and experience my everyday life more liberated.

 

Anyone who is identified with his mind instead of his true strength, the deeper Self anchored in Being, will have fear as a constant companion.
